Smart Water Monitoring in Bakersfield

How Smart Water Monitoring Systems Work

Smart water monitoring systems track water usage and look for activity outside normal patterns. Depending on the selected equipment and configuration, the system can deliver real-time alerts that let the property owner know when unusual flow is detected.

Monitoring, notifications, and shutoff functions serve distinct water-management needs. Water usage tracking provides information about consumption patterns, while notifications call attention to possible leaks. An automatic shut-off can stop water flow when the system detects a leak.

Core system functions may include:

• Continuous monitoring: Tracks water activity throughout the day and night.
• Water usage tracking: Provides data that can reveal changes in typical consumption.
• Real-time alerts: Notifies the property owner of unusual water activity.
• Automatic shut-off: Stops water flow when a leak is detected.

Continuous monitoring can identify a water event before stains, damp materials, or other visible signs appear. An alert identifies unusual activity, but it doesn’t always reveal the precise location or cause of a hidden plumbing leak.

California Insurance Incentives for Eligible Devices

Some California homeowners insurance programs offer incentives for approved smart water monitoring or leak devices. Eligibility, installation requirements, discount calculations, and covered portions of a policy vary by insurer, device, and individual policy. Confirm the current terms directly with your insurance carrier before choosing equipment.

Nationwide lists a California smart home discount of 10% for water nonweather, water weather, and theft coverage, plus 5% for fire coverage, when a customer activates an eligible smart home monitoring or leak device. The insurer determines whether a device and policy qualify.

Mercury Insurance has subsidized eligible devices for California homeowner policyholders. Its published program includes $400 toward a professionally installed Flo by Moen Smart Water Shutoff device and a 10% discount on a portion of the homeowners policy after installation. Mercury also states that non-weather water damage accounts for more than 40% of a home’s premium in California on average.

These are insurer programs, not discounts or savings we offer or guarantee. Before purchasing a device, ask the carrier which models qualify, whether professional installation is required, and how any insurance discount applies to your policy.

When an Alert Requires Professional Leak Detection

A monitoring alert signals unusual water activity. Professional leak detection locates the source of a confirmed or suspected leak, particularly when water isn’t visible or plumbing runs beneath a slab, behind a wall, or through another concealed area.

For residential plumbing investigations, our Bakersfield technicians use acoustic listening devices, thermal cameras, and moisture meters. Acoustic equipment listens for sounds associated with escaping pressurized water. Thermal imaging can reveal temperature differences, while moisture meters measure moisture within accessible building materials.

Our technicians are trained in regional soil movement patterns, local construction types, and regional building standards. This knowledge guides diagnostic testing based on how plumbing systems and structures are built in the area.

Commercial Plumbing Diagnostics

For commercial properties, we use high-frequency sensors to listen for pressurized water escaping through concrete slabs. We also offer a professional diagnostic audit of a facility’s plumbing system when property managers need a broader evaluation of suspected water loss.

We provide Leak Detection Without Destruction™ by using non-invasive methods to narrow down the source of a problem. Smart monitoring supplies the warning; our diagnostic equipment and trained technicians investigate where the water is escaping.
